Chiropractic Spinal Adjustments
Many have asked me: Why should I have to go to a chiropractor? The truth is, you shouldn't have to. But because people don't take care of their spines the way they should (even I am a little guilty!), they loose some of the mobility in their spines. Chiropractors help restore their spinal function
So what do I mean by "people don't take care of their spines the way they should"? If you have or have ever had a cat or a dog, you will notice that they stretch their spines after every period of inactivity... several times... every day! Flushing out the tension in our spine is a natural thing to do. But because humans are task oriented, they frequently skip the natural thing to do. When someone wakes up in the morning, they might consider their first task and go right to it... for me, its making a cup of coffee. I love my morning java. I might not stretch just to get the caffein pumping through my veins faster. But after sleeping and being inactive for 6 to 8 hours, I should probably stretch first!
The "Vertebral Subluxation Complex"
Should we only ring out our spine in the mornings? Of course not. Again, the cat and dog does it after every period of inactivity. They bend their spines forward and backward... and might even throw in a wiggle or two. If they didn't do this, their spine might become fixated, an element of the "vertebral subluxation complex". This is a fancy term that means a joint in your spine is not functioning normally which may have an adverse effect on your health. This is the condition that chiropractors "adjust". That is, with chiropractic spinal adjustment techniques, move a "subluxated" vertebrae in a direction of an improved posture and increased function.
Is chiropractic enough?
Most people get great results with chiropractic. But great results aren't good enough for me. I want to see AMAZING results! A chiropractic adjustment might restore the function in the subluxated spine - for the moment. But what then? How long until that dehydrated joint locks up again? That's why follow-up exercises are so important. Keeping a spine functioning well is vital for health. Bending your spine with proper exercise helps get the hydration and nutrition into the spinal discs. If you have spine problems, don't just start bending your spine without the instruction from a chiropractor. Generic spinal exercises might not be right for you. Go to a chiropractor to find out which spinal exercises are most suitable for you.
